Wayloun is an Iranian independent duo metal band based in Tehran. The genre is a mix of thrash and death metal. Their music is inspired by bands like DevilDriver, and more classic metal such as Dissection, while showing their Iranian nationality by including an Iranian instrument known as “Tombak” (as a symbol) which has a stark presence in the history of traditional Iranian music.
The founders’ friendship takes the beginning of Wayloun back to high school, when they decided to form an underground rock band. This goes back more than a decade, as they experimented with existing styles of rock and experiencing with different other band members. However, after performing a few live sessions in Iran and without publishing any of their works officially, the band dissolved eventually. Finally, in early 2023, despite many challenges, the two reunited again to focus on more professional project which they named “Wayloun“.
Wayloun means “wanderer” in Persian, chosen to express the confusions of humanity in today’s chaotic world and those philosophical complications that appear due to disturbed communication in the modern world.
Accepting anonymity, Wayloun members wear masks to appear in front of the camera and perform live, a symbol of avoiding the toxic and bigoted influence of society.
Wayloun‘s vision has a focus on justice and emphasizes ignoring of frustrations resulted from inefficiencies of world leaders. Also, the fact that victory; should not be the only goal, As they try to sympathize with their audience in the time of successive failures and in absolute discouragement, hence their slogan: “It’s alright to f*cking fail!”.
Wayloun write their lyrics in English as they believe that the heavy riffs of their music are more compatible in this language.
In addition to using a mask, they chose the liminal space for the image that should be formed in their listener’s mind; as if it’s a shelter against the same negative and aggressive thoughts that are the main axis of the vision and worldview of the band.
This aspect of Wayloun‘s philosophy is the helpless anger of a man who finally sees himself alone and hates his surrounding environment, as he inevitably turns to himself, yet the answer isn’t there either, so he tries to find someone similar to sympathize.
As for Wayloun‘s sound; At the same time that there are harsh and sharp riffs, a presence of melodic-beauty and softness is felt. There is a lesser sense of “protestations” compared to the general theme of metal genre, but more of an inherent voice of calm, innocent yet helpless that’s become livid.

Released on June 10, 2024, Wayloun‘s debut album features a thrash/groove style with growly death metal vocals. Currently, Wayloun is gaining local fame and their main goal is to reach a global audience with their powerful and bold sound.
