About Wayloun

Slide 1

Wayloun - Metal Band from Iran: An Underground Metal Duo from Tehran

An Iranian independent metal band called "Wayloun", formed by two long-time friends in Tehran. They blend thrash, death, and groove metal to create a unique, aggressive, yet emotionally charged sound. Drawing inspiration from bands like DevilDriver and Dissection, they also highlight their Iranian roots by incorporating the traditional instrument Tombak, which carries strong cultural symbolism.

The Band’s Origins

Wayloun’s story begins in high school. The two founders experimented with different rock and metal styles alongside other musicians. After several underground performances, the band went quiet. In early 2023, however, they reunited and launched their official project under the name Wayloun – a word meaning “wanderer” in Persian. The name reflects the emotional confusion and isolation they see in the modern world.

Anonymity and Artistic Identity

Members of Wayloun perform in masks, choosing anonymity to reject toxic social norms and focus on their message. This imagery reflects their view of music as a shelter from society’s harshness. Their slogan, “It’s alright to fcking fail!”*, highlights a core belief: embracing imperfection, failure, and vulnerability as essential parts of the human experience.

Lyrics, Language, and Philosophy

Despite being Iranian, English is the choice-language for lyrics in Wayloun, to match the power of their heavy riffs. Their songs explore themes of alienation, helplessness, and inner rage, while also leaving space for reflection and emotion. The band’s philosophical perspective is shaped by personal struggle, existential searching, and the rejection of superficial success.

Debut Album and Future Goals

Wayloun released their debut album on June 7, 2024, a blend of thrash and groove metal with growling vocals. Building on this momentum, they unveiled their second album, Shelterless Rage, on February 1, 2025, further solidifying Wayloun’s theme.

Wayloun has also released a third music video, enhancing their visual storytelling. With two albums, multiple singles, and three music videos, Wayloun continues to gain recognition in Iran’s metal scene and is steadfast in their mission to reach a global audience with their bold, uncompromising sound.

The Time of Silence
The Time of Silence

Over the past days, our country has gone through deeply painful moments. Lives have been lost, families have been shattered, and many people are carrying grief that words cannot fully express.

In times like these, music feels small.
